WHY USE THE BOARD WITH THE LITTLE BOXES EVERYWHERE?

It called a Kanban board and it’s the magic behind the curtain.

The Kanban can be broken down into two parts “kan” meaning visual, and “ban” meaning card or board.

Quick History: The term Kanban can be traced back to a physical card that was used in the Toyota Production System (TPS).  Placing a physical card in the inventory created a non-centralized “pull” production control. Popularized by Edward Dimming, the use of kanban methodology and pull  and production controls have spread from the late 1960’s all over the world as a tool of lean manufacturing. Using the same methodology Kanban boards were developed to show tasks that need attention and columns on the board show the tasks current status.  Kanban boards are effective by  limiting multitasking by focusing the users attention on a limited number of tasks.
